SO what's next

well i got a lot of good feedback and i stress "a lot". now it would be good to do something(s) with that feedback. I might try to create another kinetic typography animation or i might try to create something in InDesign. I'm just not really sure what to do at this point. In the meantime I will continue working on my website while i keep exploring these new graphics programs.

Blitz Critz

The blitz critz was awesome! I got some really good feedback and I got to get an in depth look into some of my classmates work. I was interviewed by three artists. The first was Robert Lieber who is also an art historian. He really liked my kinetic typography animation and encouraged me to continue down this path for the rest of my senior studio work. He stressed that i should focus on type itself and learn as much as i can about it. He would like to see me make more animations about things like movies (psycho-- douglas gordon), speeches, commercials, etc.

My second interviewer was Karen Gelardi who has a background in graphic design. She really liked my vector portraits and encouraged me to create a program on "myID" that would generate similar results for users. She really understood where i was coming from as a self taught graphic designer and encouraged me to continue with what i was doing. She also said it would be best to keep exploring the various graphics programs and then to settle on one style and learn it as much as possible. She also said that motion graphics is a very successful field and has a lot of great career opportunities. She told me to do some research on Paul Raynd and to watch movies about design (art world) and to just seek out more information. She said it is really important to get familiar with different designers and to that i should also keep a scrapbook of fonts and the emotions these fonts evoke in my opinion.

My third and last interviewer was Lisa Bossi, a graphic designer and illustrator. her first suggestion right off the bat was to make my posters larger. She wanted to see the words in works such as "love" and "name". She also said it was important to try to grow in the public eye and adapt to the changes made. She encouraged me not to get stuck on one piece but to explore many different things at one time. She would have liked to see more sketches to see where my mind was going for some of my projects. her quote "don't underestimate the power of a napkin" (brilliant!!!). She said to draw my art from whatever was occurring in my life at that time. She also stressed organization and user friendliness. she said to always make sure to design things so that they are easy for my viewers to understand. de clutter and focus on package design.  She would like to see me combine my art (drawing/painting/illustration) with my typography (cross pollinate). She also left me with a warning.... "don't lose it (traditional art) in the digital world".

Meeting with mentor

It was really great meeting with professor Mullen today. He sat with me and we went through all the work one by one. He really asked me to have an idea of what my work was trying to say (even if they were trying to say a lot of different things). He made some suggestions of artist I should look to for inspiration. One in particular who he pointed out was Edward Tufte, an information graphics artists who is pretty much the go to guy for the rules governing this field of work. I got some really helpful suggestions from him and I look forward to our next meetings as my work develops.
