gallery show
so the show was awesome! i was really excited to do this and happy to be a part of it. there was a huge audience and room was packed the entire time i was there. i got some really good feedback and people commented on the fact that daron was there in person and that made the work more accessible. i'm glad alicia suggested i continue with traditional art and for next semester i will be following this path. Im already coming up with ideas and i look forward to it!

waiting
I created a drawing and a painting entitled "waiting". The subjects of the two works are my husband, Daron. I had him pose with a kind of sad look on his face. I really like how they came out. it was also good to paint and draw again. I do need a lot of practice and I can see that there are a few things i need to work on but overall it was fun and nice to revisit.
painting and drawing
I will be trying out painting and drawing for this project. i haven't done any kind of this art for a while so i'm happy to see how much i have left in me. i know it wont be easy!

SO what's next
well i got a lot of good feedback and i stress "a lot". now it would be good to do something(s) with that feedback. I might try to create another kinetic typography animation or i might try to create something in InDesign. I'm just not really sure what to do at this point. In the meantime I will continue working on my website while i keep exploring these new graphics programs.
Blitz Critz
The blitz critz was awesome! I got some really good feedback and I got to get an in depth look into some of my classmates work. I was interviewed by three artists. The first was Robert Lieber who is also an art historian. He really liked my kinetic typography animation and encouraged me to continue down this path for the rest of my senior studio work. He stressed that i should focus on type itself and learn as much as i can about it. He would like to see me make more animations about things like movies (psycho-- douglas gordon), speeches, commercials, etc.

My third and last interviewer was Lisa Bossi, a graphic designer and illustrator. her first suggestion right off the bat was to make my posters larger. She wanted to see the words in works such as "love" and "name". She also said it was important to try to grow in the public eye and adapt to the changes made. She encouraged me not to get stuck on one piece but to explore many different things at one time. She would have liked to see more sketches to see where my mind was going for some of my projects. her quote "don't underestimate the power of a napkin" (brilliant!!!). She said to draw my art from whatever was occurring in my life at that time. She also stressed organization and user friendliness. she said to always make sure to design things so that they are easy for my viewers to understand. de clutter and focus on package design. She would like to see me combine my art (drawing/painting/illustration) with my typography (cross pollinate). She also left me with a warning.... "don't lose it (traditional art) in the digital world".

Meeting with mentor
It was really great meeting with professor Mullen today. He sat with me and we went through all the work one by one. He really asked me to have an idea of what my work was trying to say (even if they were trying to say a lot of different things). He made some suggestions of artist I should look to for inspiration. One in particular who he pointed out was Edward Tufte, an information graphics artists who is pretty much the go to guy for the rules governing this field of work. I got some really helpful suggestions from him and I look forward to our next meetings as my work develops.

Now what????
for the next two weeks i'm not really sure what to do. I'm debating continuing with After effects and trying to make a commercial or trying to add special effects to a video i'll make. that or maybe I will be working on two posters advertising some kind of product... or I might try to create a website from scratch ( which is something i've always wanted to learn how to do).

kinetic typography
Phew! finally got this done. It was really intimidating at first but by the end I really got the hang of it.
I had no idea what i was doing or how to use the program at first. I ended up using knowledge I had from other programs such as photoshop and illustrator to help me make my way around After effects. At first it was really reaaaaaally hard and almost had me in tears but by the end I really feel comfortable using it to design.

The Next Two Weeks
For the next two weeks I plan to work on kinetic typography. I wanted to work on this for my first project but I would need at least a week and a half to two weeks to complete it. I'm looking for a short poem, saying or motivational speech that i will animate using text.
Name and Love
For this project I used photoshop to create a design focusing on my interest in visual art and design. I pretended that I owned my own business and I wanted to show interested clients what my business would have to offer.
I thought of what I knew about design as well as what I hoped to learn through this project
This project took me about 9 hours to create and I had to research how to add certain effects in photoshop.
I also created a work focused on the word "Love" I used tools i learned from "name" to help create this work. I used words that came to my mind when i thought of the word "love".
These are my explorations of typography focused on a word.
This was a huge learning experience for me.
some of the works that inspired me:
